Why is reporting flood damages important?
- Disaster recovery is a multi-step process starting with an initial damage assessment.
- An initial damage assessment allows the City of Socorro and El Paso County to request a Declaration of Disaster Proclamation and gain access state and federal disaster recovery funds for public facilities and also residents who need funds to make flood related home repairs.

What should residents do after a flood event?

- If your home or personal property was damaged by the flooding, contact your insurance company to determine coverage and start the claim process. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING - take pictures of the flood damages and make notes on what was damaged or lost due to the flooding.
- Clean-up: Complete emergency clean-up activities that may include removing water damaged property (carpeting, cabinets).
- Repairs: Keep all receipts related to the clean-up and repair of your property. Contact the Planning and Zoning Department for assistance with the disaster assessment process and permitting information.
